Once a year, the Bills Backers of Boston sponsor Charity Day, a day for us Bills fans to help out those less fortunate. A big part of the day is a rafflle to raise money for a charity selected by the Club. We hold a
food drive on that day to benefit needy families in the Boston area. Finally, any money remaining in the club treasury at the end of the season (leaving just enough to get us started the following year) is
donated to charity as well.
The 2007 event raised $400 for the West Harlem Action Network Against Poverty and $1,600 for the Brian Moorman PUNT Foundation.
In 2006, a total of $1,903 was split between Treats for Troops and Hunters Hope.
2005 was the year of Hurricane Katrina, and the Bills Backers of Boston raised $1,685 for the American Red Cross.
In 2004, we raised $1300 for Cheers for Children. This represents the largest single donation ever by our club. Way to go!
Charity Day 2003 raised $900 for Boston Children's Hospital. In addition, the raffle of a Drew Bledsoe-autographed football over the course of the season raised $600 for the Parenting with Dignity Foundation.
In honor of Jim Kelly's election to the Pro Football Hall of Fame, the 2002 event raised $900 for Hunter's Hope
Charity Day in 2001 benefited the Drew Bledsoe Foundation and its Parenting with Dignity Program. Backers members donated $1000 to this terrific cause; click here to see the kind acknowledgment we received from the foundation.
In the 2000 season, the Backers raised $800 on Charity Day, which was donated to the Buffalo Bills Youth Foundation to aid children in Western New York.
Our first charity fundraiser, in 1996, raised $400 to the fight against breast cancer. In 1997, the Backers raised $700 which was donated to the Hunter's Hope Foundation,
a part of the Kelly For Kids Foundation. (Click on the links to see the thank-you letter from each organization. Click here to go to the Kelly For Kids/Hunters Hope website). We've also raised money for the Doug Flutie, Jr., Foundation for Autism and have purchased a brick on the Bills Walk of Fame outside Ralph Wilson Stadium to benefit the Buffalo Bills Youth Foundation.
The generous, and continually growing, contributions of the Bills Backers members are truly incredible. The Backers thank you, but more importantly, so do the people that you've helped.
